With the Apple and Grape festival looming, all eyes were on Stanthorpe. Ridgemill Estate were excited to have a highly esteemed guest take time to explore our region and hear our story.
Visiting the Southern Downs, the Queensland Governor was briefed on the opportunities and challenges facing our great region. Such opportunities include a movement, unique to the Granite Belt, that is shaping the future of wine tourism in Queensland. At Ridgemill Estate, we are honoured to be recognised an active contributor to this effort, as vibrant, local producers of boutique Granite Belt wine.
It is for this reason we were lucky enough to host his excellency, the Queensland Governor earlier in March. We took time to show the Governor around our Estate, visiting the cottages, vineyards and our friendly goats. Peter, our vine whisperer, gave a tour of our production area, sharing stories whilst navigating tall steel drums and sturdy oak barrels that aged our next vintage. Before the visit drew to a close, we squeezed in a quick stop at the cellar door to taste a few of our best wines.
An enormous thank you to the Governor and his wife, who took the time to meet local businesses contributing to the growing popularity of Granite Belt wines, and listen to our own unique story. You can find him on twitter here: @QldGovernor
Interested in our cellar door experience? Stop on by, we love to share our local produce, and the stories surrounding them! Mind you, there’s a bit to taste. But if you’re worried about rushing through, simply stay the night. We have a number of self-contained, luxury cottages that overlook our rich vineyards.
